EYELASH LENGTHENING WITH LATISSE

LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is a prescription treatment for inadequate eyelashes. It was first introduced by Allergan in 2001 as a glaucoma medication to treat increased pressure in the eye. Patients began to report that they were seeing longer, fuller, and darker eyelashes as a side effect of using the medication. LATISSE® was judged safe and effective for eyelash lengthening by the FDA in December 2008 following the outcome of a clinical study.

How it Works

LATISSE® is believed to work by increasing the length and number if hairs during an extended eyelash growth phase. It is a once-nightly treatment that is applied topically to the skin at the base of your upper eyelashes using an applicator brush followed by blotting of any excess fluid. http://www.latisse.com/HowToApply.aspx

The results are gradual and will be evident within about 4-8 weeks with full growth present by 16 weeks of regular use. Continued use is necessary to maintain the results.

Side Effects

Although side effects are uncommon, those that may occur are skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness, and redness of the eyelids. Increased brown pigmentation of the iris in people with green or hazel eye color has been reported as a rare but permanent change that may develop if the drops are applied directly into the eye. Any differences in the appearance of the eyelashes between each eye would resolve if you stop using LATISSE®.
